For our second Winter on the road we chose to head to central Florida. We stayed at the Resort at Canopy Oaks in Lake Wales, about 90 minutes south of Orlando. This was our first experience at a full resort. With over 400 sites and everything you could want right on the property: tiki bar, pizza & deli, ice cream shop, nail salon, pool & hot tub, fitness center, pickleball, and best of all GOATS. It really was a treat to have all of these amenities and the RV sites were large, full concrete pads with plenty of grass area between you and your neighbor. A huge difference from last year’s experience. We got to enjoy a visit from my brother Ronnie and we ventured out on a swamp tour in Kissimmee to see all the gators which was a blast. We also had a lovely Christmas with our good friends from last Winter, Karen and Mark. They stayed at the resort for a week and we had our 2nd annual Christmas prime rib thanks to chef Nick. Leo also got to visit with Santa and feel a few snowflakes again (fake of course). We did hit up the beach even though we were in central Florida. One trip out to Vero beach. The beach was amazing and I got to enjoy a little shopping as well. We ventured to the other coast and hit up Venice beach. They have an awesome dog beach here and for a bit we were considering a homebase in that area, we absolutely loved it. We also got to visit friends from last Winter at Seminole campground, it was so great to catch up and see everyone again! Our adventure to Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales was incredible. The tower was amazing and such beautiful grounds to wander through. I would not have expected that in the middle of Florida. Other fun during this time included a trip to Boston for work (first time in the office in 2 years and meeting my team of 3 years for the first time in person), frequent wild fires around the resort, Space-X launches, slaw burgers at P&Js in Frostproof, Nick putting his toolbox to use with folks trying to fix a flat in the middle of nowhere Florida, and our 3rd round of COVID struck both Nick and me. We also hit up the Tampa RV Show again at the state fair grounds, always looking for ‘what’s next’. :) We enjoyed our palm trees, sunsets and warm weather for the Winter and we plan to venture back for Winter 23-24.
