Springtime in South Carolina: Coastal Vibes & Lowcountry Charm 🌴🐊⛵
Lesson learned: never leave Florida on April 1st! Turns out, every other snowbird had the same idea, and what should have been a four-hour drive turned into seven hours of gridlock. But after a long travel day (and an overnight stop at the Gainesville/Starke KOA), we finally made it to Hardeeville, SC—our home for the month.
Lake Jasper RV Park: A Perfect Jumping-Off Spot 🚐🌊
While Lake Jasper RV Park wasn’t right on the coast, it gave us the perfect base to explore Savannah, Hilton Head, Tybee Island, and Beaufort. Even better, the park backed up to a county park with beautiful walking trails and a lake, which meant daily adventures for Leonidas.
And of course, we made sure to indulge in plenty of local brews and coastal eats. But the real highlight? Our adventure to Hunting Island State Park and the charming town of Beaufort.
Beaufort: Golf Carts, Forrest Gump, & Lowcountry Beauty 🌿🏡🎬
We kicked things off with a golf cart tour through historic Beaufort, rolling past stunning antebellum homes and famous filming locations from Forrest Gump. The live oaks, Spanish moss, and coastal breeze gave the town a charm that’s hard to put into words.
But nothing compared to the natural beauty of Hunting Island State Park. The beaches, marshes, and wildlife were simply unreal. It’s one of those places where you just feel at peace.
Tornadoes, Gators, & Snakes—Oh My! 🌪️🐍🫣
South Carolina wasn’t without its wild side. We dodged tornadoes, kept our distance from alligators, and had a few snake run-ins—but hey, it all just added to the adventure!
Final Thoughts: A Spectacular Spring Kickoff ☀️🌴
Between the coastal charm, historic towns, and natural beauty, we could definitely get used to the Lowcountry vibe. It was an incredible month, filled with adventure, relaxation, and a little bit of wildlife survival. 😆
Until next time, South Carolina! 🚐✨
