This Spring we ventured from Florida over to Texas for the Spring. We lived in Austin for a Winter in 2013-14 and love going back to this town. We did an overnight in Iowa, Louisiana where we found the most amazing rum distillery. We left with some orange and coffee rums and will have to venture back to Louisiana at some point because you can’t get this rum outside of the state and it seriously is the best rum we have had. We had some crazy storms while traveling through, but it is Springtime so to be expected I guess. But it’s my least favorite part of the RV life – dealing with storms and crazy winds while in a small house on wheels. :) It was a pretty stressful travel weekend across to Austin between the rough roads in Louisiana, Lafayette traffic, Houston traffic and then Austin traffic. Finally we made our a way through the cities to hill country. First stop? H-E-B of course. Our favorite grocery store. It was so good to be back. We brought our little guy Leo into Austin for a day and ventured along Barton Creek. Always so beautiful. We were able to connect with some old friends from when I worked at St. Jude Medical. It was so fun to connect again and catch up. And you don’t spend time in Austin without enjoying some BBQ and Torchy’s tacos. Spring in Texas is known for its wild flowers so we took a drive along Blue Bonnet scenic drive to experience this beauty. It was breathtaking. It was great to explore more of hill country while in Texas. I think our favorite spot was Llano where we found some amazing BBQ and it was just a cute little town. Nick also treated me to a couple winery visits, which is my happy place.  We didn’t spend a lot of time in Austin but we had to find our favorite food spot Gourdoughs for some yummy donut dessert. Sadly the restaurant closed where we would enjoy a burger on a donut instead of a bun, but their food truck still has amazing donut desserts which we got to enjoy one more time. As we always do in Austin, we enjoyed plenty of good food, drinks and outdoors.
