From Tennessee to Florida: A Stop in Fort White 🚐🌴
Our journey south to Florida kicked off with a quick overnight stay at the Forsyth KOA in Georgia. At first, we weren’t sure if our big rig would make it through the narrow, wooded roads, but thankfully, they had a well-designed setup with pull-thru sites just for RVs like ours. It ended up being the perfect stop, and given how we survived Atlanta traffic (barely!), this might just become our go-to Georgia overnight spot.
Moonshine Acres: Big Yards & Thanksgiving Feasts 🏕️🍂
Our first Florida destination was Moonshine Acres in Fort White, a quiet little campground that felt tucked away in the middle of nowhere—yet was just minutes from Ichetucknee Springs State Park. The best part? Our site had the biggest yard ever, giving Leo plenty of space to run, play, and explore. He was in doggy heaven! 🐶🌿
Since we were here over Thanksgiving, Nick contributed his famous smoked baked beans to the campground potluck dinner, and they were an absolute hit. He also got busy with some RV upgrades to make life on the road a little more seamless:
🌀 Installed 12-volt hanging fans in the office, living room, and bedroom—finally ditching our bulky standing fans.
👕 Put up a retractable clothesline in the bedroom—because let’s be honest, campground dryers are hit or miss, and those quarters add up fast.
👟 Mounted new shoe holders in the entryway—no more tripping over a pile of shoes every time we walk in!
Exploring Ichetucknee & Catching a Gators Game 🌊🏐
The weather wasn’t quite ideal for swimming or kayaking, but we still ventured over to Ichetucknee Springs State Park to soak in some of its natural beauty. It’s one of those places we’d love to return to in warmer months, when the springs can truly be enjoyed.
Another highlight? Catching a Florida Gators volleyball game in Gainesville! I got to meet up with an old volleyball friend from Minnesota, making the experience even more special. Great game, great company, and a perfect little dose of nostalgia.
Final Thoughts: A Hidden Gem Worth Revisiting 🌿✨
Moonshine Acres turned out to be a quiet, cozy stop—a little off the beaten path, but worth it for the space, the peaceful vibe, and the proximity to the springs. We’d love to come back when the weather is right for tubing and kayaking, but even on a chilly visit, it was a great way to start our Florida adventure.
Next stop? More sunshine, more adventures, and hopefully, fewer shoes to trip over. 😆
