Our next stop on the RV Doing This adventure was Florida's Space Coast - where NASA has their launch pad and the Kennedy Space Center resides. To say that William was beyond excited to go see all the space ships and astronaut stuff is an understatement! First, we had to find a place to stay, and we wanted a place near the beach as well. There aren't many RV campgrounds near the beach in this area, but we found Jetty Park at Port Canaveral on our ParkAdvisor APP and knew this would be the perfect campground. With the ocean just a short walk away, and the Kennedy Space Center just a thirty minute drive down the road, we knew we hit the jackpot in campground sites!
The pricing was slightly above average (in the $27 to $35 range depending on sites), and like normal we chose the cheaper site, going with a no sewage site (they have separate dump sites at the campground). While you can find spots with full electric, water and sewage, we try to do without to stay within our budget. The campground also has cabins and primitive spots as well. The fenced in campground allows for a secure site, since the beaches are open to non-campers, and everything within the park is easily accessible, including hot showers, playground, store, beaches, and other games/activities.
It is really cool to watch the ships come in and out of the port all day. Maybe not as fun at 5 o'clock in the morning when a large cruise ship decides to blow the horn (Greg and I both sat up in bed very confused), but this only happened one morning, and we got to watch the Disney Cruise Ship come through, so it ended up being cool. We also were fortunate enough to see a Coast Guard ship and a submarine come through, so if you have kids that love ships, this is a great campground for them!
We also needed to have our AC replaced (bummer, huh?) while we were here, and there was some great service repair companies close by that came out for installation. Close by is Cape Laundry, which was a great laundry facility with huge washer and dryers, great staff and free drinks and detergent! We would definitely recommend this place for you to stop and do the laundry! There is access to plenty of local spots, including the Cocoa Beach Pier, making the campground a great spot for accessibility to anything you can think to need or want!
We loved the friendliness of the staff and all the other campers, and would definitely recommend this place to anyone coming to explore Florida's Space Coast. While there is tons to do nearby, like the Kennedy Space Center, or even Orlando itself, there is also free things to do just at the campground to help the budget, including the beautiful beaches and watching the ships go in and out of port. We had a lot of fun at Jetty Park at Port Canaveral, and completely enjoyed our stay!
I am a mother and stepmother, fierce slayer of mental illness, writer and traveler. I love the constant change of the road, and the experiences it brings our family. We have learned so much being full-time RVers, and love the freedom this lifestyle gives us.
